Yet another milestone in a players’ career. According to Yahoo! Sports:
Delgado climbed to 40th place on the all-time home runs list. He has five homers in his last seven games, after hitting only three in his first 44 contests.
Congrats to Delgado, the Mets, and my fantasy baseball team!
According to Yahoo! Sports:
May 24 The New York Daily News’ Mark Feinsand reports New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter collected the 2,215th hit of his career on May 23 to pass Joe DiMaggio for fifth place on the Yankees’ all-time list.
Has Joltin’ Joe really left and gone away? Hey, hey hey!
With all the Hooperlah about Barry Bonds, I feel we’ve missed a pretty important milestone for another player:
May 17 According to The New York Times and the Society for American Baseball Research, New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter singled in the first game of the May 16 doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox to give him hits in 92 of his past 100 games. No player in the 1900s has accomplished that feat. The last player to do it was Wee Willie Keeler, who hit in 93 of 100 games 1898 and 1899.
Pedro Martinez wins number 200. Against the Braves. The Mets are 10-2, with a five game lead. Life is good. — Michael Norton
